Checking in with Kirk on the MADness in Charlotte

Recently we’ve been checking in all over the board; from Brandon and the corporate team, to franchisees, all the way to nutrition with Cristina and 28 to Life.  While it’s always fun to share the new and exciting things spreading the MADness all over the board, today we’re focusing back on Charlotte, the place where it all began, and the man who all too effectively makes us all push a little bit farther, jump a little higher, and never lets us sacrifice our form: Kirk.

Kirk has been a steady hand as the Co-Founder of MADabolic Inc., and the leader behind the day-to-day management of the Charlotte flagship facility, setting the standards high for every location, coach, and client that will ever walk through the doors.

If it weren’t for his watchful eye I would have likely set my bulldog jump rope on fire and just walked away by now.  But alas, I keep jumping, because [Captain] Kirk is always watching, and lets be honest, he fills out the arm holes in his t-shirts better than I do, which leads me to believe he’s probably stronger than me. (Also because it’s a scientific fact that he is stronger than me.)

So, in the spirit of just getting down to it, check out what Kirk had to say this week:

VM: You have a lot happening with the Brand, and Charlotte is the flagship location at the center of it all.  How has the news of franchising impacted the Charlotte location?

KD: We have seen a big increase in new clients coming in to get a taste of the MADness, so that has been great.  I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the franchising side of things, or not, but we couldn’t be happier with the positive feedback we are getting from the Charlotte fitness community.

VM: What are the most important and key factors that you think led to the success of the Charlotte location?

KD: When Brandon and I first started talking about the concept, our main goal was to come up with a fitness program that was different from what everyone else was doing. We didn’t want to compete with other products so we really focused on being diverse and innovative.

VM: As you and Brandon grow the brand, what is your main focus going forward?

KD: First and foremost we want to provide the best possible experience for our clients.  We really want to stay on the cutting edge of fitness.  The way our program is set up it will allow us to change and adapt as the fitness world evolves.

VM: What is your favorite part of your job?

KD: I really enjoy the class atmosphere.  I like connecting with the clients and trying to get the best out of each individual on any given day.

VM: What do you look forward to each day that you come to work?

KD: Honestly, I really look forward to collaborating with Brandon on a day-to-day basis and seeing how we can improve upon everything.  Whether it’s tweaking workouts or adopting better business practices.  We are not ones to get complacent so we are very critical of each aspect of the business.

VM:  Now, to get a little more Kirk-centric, what will we typically find on your playlist?

KD:  Well, that depends on where the playlist is being played.  In my car I like more of the alternative type of rock music.  During a workout I like something with a good beat that keeps people moving.  By no means am I music savvy.

VM:  What songs are you digging right now? Which ones would you like to ban from all playlists?

KD:  I am loving anything from Imagine Dragons right now.  They keep popping out great tunes.  You will definitely not hear Pink on one of my playlists – I’m not a big fan of hers at all.

VM:  If you could give one piece of advice or encouragement to someone who is thinking about trying the MADness for the first time, what would it be?

KD: Don’t be intimidated.  We get a lot of people that feel they have to be in tip-top shape to even just try us out.  As long as you have been somewhat active in the last few months you will be fine.  The great thing about our programming is that you get to dictate your own level of intensity for each day.

VM:  As the first few franchises open, what do you look forward to most?

KD:  I am really looking forward to see how these new cities and locations will embrace the MADness.  We feel there isn’t really anything that compares to us right now, so it will be exciting to see it all unfold.
